The UK is experiencing the worst winter since 1991 as heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures are causing havoc. Most places having now being subjected to snow.
Making memories
I am sure we all have fond childhood memories of snow days, waking up and looking outside the bedroom window at the blanket of snow that has settled overnight. If it is a school day, I am sure you remember the anticipation of being told by your parents that school is closed.
Do you remember wrapping up warm, heading straight outside for some snowball fights with your friends? Grabbing your sledge and heading for the nearest slope no matter whether it was large or small. Building a snowman or making snow angels by lying in the snow.
Coming from the South of England we do not see that much snow but the last few days, boy have we had some. As we do not see the “white stuff” that much it really does cause chaos for us as a nation.
The Cause
This cold spell according the the MET office has been because of Storm Emma and the so-called ‘Beast from the East’ winter storm bringing heavy snow and Siberian temperatures. They issued a Red weather warning, the second one this week. When it is highly likely that the weather will cause a high level of impact to daily life these red warnings are issued.
Everyone begins as a child by liking Weather. You learn the art of disliking it as you grow up. Noticed it on a snowy day? The grown-ups are all going about with long faces, but look at the children – and the dogs? They know what snow’s made for.
