A moment lasts all of a second, but the memory lives on forever
Does anybody else remember happy childhood moments spent building dens in either their back garden on a summers day or playing in a den built inside in the colder months. Den building is such a fantastic activity to enjoy with your children and it can keep them engaged for hours.
Memories are timeless treasures of the heart
Now it would be nice to have some photos of me when I was young as I fondly remember building dens with my sister. We used to pull the dining room chairs out and spread blankets over the top to create our den. Did you build dens too, can you remember how you built yours? Sadly for us, I do not have any photos to remind me of these moments, but I do still luckily have my memories.
A Just a Moment Session
I was so pleased when this Surrey family decided to use their “Just A Moment” session to document the fun they have with their children making a den. What a perfect way to spend a chilly winter afternoon, lots of team work skills for the kids and fun and laughter for all.
I arrived at this beautiful Victorian property mid afternoon and the front room was all ready to be set up for fun. The children were both so excited to be making an inside den with a little help from their wonderful Mum and Dad.

Peeking out
The best sessions will always be the ones capturing your family moments doing something you love. Documentary family sessions are a different kind of family session. They often take place at your home, a place where your children feel safe. I can catch their genuine smiles and laughter in an environment they feel comfortable.

Chaos and fun

Bundle
There’s nothing I find sweeter than capturing those family moments all together, filled with fun, love and laughter. What could be better than having this much fun and spending quality time as a family?

Helping hand

Crawling through
Spending an afternoon with this lovely family, building indoor dens, was EXACTLY the kind of session I love to shoot. Nothing posed and a great activity to keep the kids engaged, made for these memory-rich photographs. Those small hands and feet crawling, jumping and running all over the living room. Lots of tickles and sounds of laughter as everyone is having fun. Hints of both of the childrens personalities definately shining through. Mum and Dad calmly being there, joining in the fun and overseeing the frivolities, helping whenever needed.

We don’t remember days, we remember moments
These are photos that I know will grow more valuable over time – as children grow up, parents get older, moments become memories, and activities become traditions.

Tickle monster
You can almost hear the giggles in the picture above! And believe me, there were lots of giggles!

Why is this not working?
You could tell that this was not the first den they had built as a family, they definitely all knew what they were doing.
I could’ve stayed all day in their gorgeous home photographing their activities, it was such fun to document the love they have for each other as a family.

Listening
Den building together is definitely an activity worth capturing in a documentary session. It offers lots of moments of team work and loads of fun and laughter. It’s something that is really absorbing for kids, so they often forget about the camera and just enjoy what they’re doing.

Sofa Run
Genuine expressions guaranteed
This style of photography is when you get the most genuine expressions from everyone including the adults! Sure, den building can be a little bit messy, but kids love to get involved, and it’s also a great way to make memories!
